The Longy School of Music of Bard College seeks a voice teacher, baritone or tenor, to work with singers of all ages. Candidates should be comfortable teaching in a variety of styles including classical, musical, jazz and pop. Teacher should possess substantial teaching and performing experience, and the ability to teach at all levels. Special consideration will be given to those who have a passion for working with young beginners and who have innovative ideas around how to engage adolescent beginners. The candidate should be comfortable teaching private and group lessons. The candidate will possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; and a demonstrable ability to promote a productive and positive climate among students, staff and fellow faculty. Candidate should be comfortable teaching group and private lessons as well as coaching chamber ensembles. Longy seeks an individual that is enthusiastic and committed to recruiting and building a strong studio and who is engaged in the string department. Candidate would take part in department meetings, juries and evaluations as well as other special departmental events. An advanced degree or demonstrated equivalent is required. Saturday teaching hours are required for this position. Additional teaching assignments are possible if desired, depending upon additional skill set and pending satisfactory teaching demonstration.

The Longy School of Music of Bard College, Bard College and the Los Angeles Philharmonic have partnered to develop the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program for musicians with a desire to respond to today’s educational needs, and who aspire to participate in the growing El Sistema movement in the U.S.
The Master of Arts in Teaching Program is seeking visiting faculty members in Education for its MAT Program in Los Angeles, CA. The MAT Program is committed to rigorous graduate training in both music and education; intense involvement in the K-12 classroom; partnerships for educational change with participant schools and community programs; and a re-conceptualized education curriculum.
Date of appointment: January 1, 2013.
QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or Ed.D with preferred expertise in the areas of Cognition and Instruction, Music Education, Educational Psychology, Cultural Diversity, Literacy, and Education Foundations. Previous experience as a public school teacher is also desirable. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
