The orchestra, expertly led by Jonathan Cohler, gave a first-rate clinic on how to lay down a successful accompaniment, putting forth a warm, sizable sound without obscuring its talented guest.Cohler's interpretation [of Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Overture], carefully balancing lush ardor and sober clarity, ably wedded wide dynamic contrasts, biting accents, and malleable tempos to clean passage work and taut textures...this was a top-drawer rendition...It's easy to fall in love with orchestras that give concerts this pleasing. Kudos to Cohler and company for fashioning a fine bouquet for its listeners.
